At the end of the driveway

Kia Ora Readers! As you all know my name is Maddie and I go to YMS. In Rimu we have been reading school journals and then doing activities about them, I have decided to share my favourite activity and what it was based on.
We had to read a poem and find 5 new words their meanings and using a sentence with the new words. After that were had to answer questions about the poem and then write our own. I am going to share my poem, the words, the questions and the original poem.

Original Poem.
At the end of the driveway the world begins.
At the end of the driveway the world is going.

Kids drift past trees and recycling bins.
Kids wander by, their faces glowing.

In summer sun and winter sports
kids walk to school in their uniforms.

Inside their uniforms, their itching skins.
Inside their skins, the kids are glowing.

This girl frowns, this boy ducks his head and grins:
not yet seeing, not yet knowing.

That what's gone is a new beginning,
that what begins is already going.

Fast then faster. Adults with their faces,
Whoosh bu in cars to adult places.

 My Poem

My poem.At the end of the driveways kids leave for class. The puddles spread across the road like glass,As the kids wonder along the damp side walks, As they blurt out one of their chatter talks.Trees dancing in the crisp breeze,The kids walk with such ease. The school stands like a castle towering over. They reach the castle just in time, luckily they had there four leaf clover.

My Poem is also about the end of the driveway.

My New words.

The questions and the answers.

Q, What imagery is produced in this poem?
A,  The injury is of kids smiling and laughing while going to school.
Q, What rhythm/pattern do you see in this poetry?

Home Learning, The Island

A Moment Of Silence

Kia Ora everyone! fist of all I send all of my love and YMS's love to all who were affected by this tragedy, but we cant let it pull us apart, stay strong NZ.
Our school dressed in amazing bright colors to raise money for those who were affected, in my class ( Rimu ) we made different items to show how we feel, I worked with grace and we made a picture with a note 3 images and a paper chain around the perimeter. Please if you have made anything, share it on your blog, I will try to see all of them.

What our poster says. Even though we are going through this tough time try to smile, this is not pulling us apart but pulling us together, no matter what happens we can't dwell in the past. Move forward, never look back. you are all precious all of YMS love goes to those who need it. this as a country does not make us "bad" we are NZ kiwis, we stick together.

We gather our donation in a shape of a heart, I was so happy with how much we made, and how that our money is going to help people in need.💗❤️💖.

We all wrote messages in the netball circle, there still there at the moment and I think that it makes our school shine a little brighter,🌈❤.

This is what a girl named Mia made in my class, if you don't know it is a lot of small and big paper cranes made from paper, origami. Origami cranes mean peace love and happiness.

Goodbye for now, stay strong and smile. Thank you all for reading my blog post I hope you all enjoyed reading. I hope you leave a comment and I can't wait to read them all!
Sincerely, Maddie from YMS.

Dot Plots and Strip Graphs!

Hey guys, it me Maddie again, This is my maths work I am going to share my favorite slides that I have answered and you guys can try to answer some of the questions, do you think some of my answers a wrong? why? what do you think that answers are?

This is one of the dot plots that I have made maybe you guys could try to make one on google drawings with the data that I used on mine, you could post it on your blog and link it in the comments so I can check it out.

What is a dot plot?
a dot plot is using dots to say what something is like a person or the amount of goals and the numbers are to say how many time something happened, eg 7 people scored a goal 5 times there would be 7 dots over the 5.

What is a strip graph?
a  strip graph is when you share data in a form of a line, the most important thing to remember when you make one is to make sure the data is clear.

This photo is of a strip graph do you agree with my answers? if not why? after looking at my blog which one do you like the look of more or which one your going to try dot plots, or strip graphs?

This photo is asking you  to read a dot plot and it gave you options for your answers then you have to explain your answer, this is about how many pets in houses in to different neighborhoods.

Thank you for reading my blog, what do you think about dot plots and strip graphs? do you think there easy or hard? are you going to try one? what was your favorite part of my blog? what can I improve on? thank  you again and until I share again with you guys Goodbye.

Sincerely Maddie from YMS.

Free Writing!

Hey guys Its me Maddie, I have been doing alot of free writing lately. I have started a new one which is about half way done and this one that I am sharing with you is my favorite and the one I have finished. I really like this free writing because I think that I gave a lot of description and an overall good job. What do you think? I decided to make mine a thriller because I was in the spooky mood and it was the only good idea that came to mind and I liked. What is your favorite try of story?
This story I found really hard to come up for illustrations, but the easy part was the writing because I had so many ideas.

Thank you so much for reading my blog post, What was your favorite part? What can I improve on? What are some ideas I can writ about next time?.
Sincerely, Maddie

Robotic Hand??

Kia Ora Readers, Its me Maddie from YMS. Welcome to/back to my learning blog.

In Rimu we are very lucky and have two amazing teachers Mrs Taylor and Mrs Spragg.

Mrs Taylor's husband came in to show us his new robotic arm, there is only 5 people in NZ that have one and he is the only 1 in Chch. He showed us how the arm worked and how he controlled it. He lost his arm in an accident at his work, when he was 17. Last year we met him with his hook, his nickname was captain hook and we found it very fun to talk about.

The thumb on the biotic arm is like a joystick for a video game, this is because the thumb needs to move in different ways.

Rimu class found this very new and interesting shaking hands with him. There was different types of materials to make this arm, plastic, fabric. there was about two more but I can't remember them all.

I found it interesting how there was a battery for every finger to control each one.

I enjoyed learning about Richards new arm and how it works, I like how it has bluetooth so you can control it with your phone he and Mrs Taylor has the app. ( I think that Mrs Taylor's going to have fun with that)
Thank you all so much for coming onto my blog please leave a comment down below. Did you find it as interesting as I did? Talk to you guys next time I have something to share, until then Goodbye.
